Reflection on my Spark Video

This video was somewhat difficult to pull together. With the short turn around for the project and the distance between me and my family, coordinating everything was difficult. Not everyone is able to talk to family members freely and putting them on record can even be more difficult. My parents, while fitting the age criteria for the oral history, have never been the type to talk about their past in private—let alone in public. Naturally that was a no go. I think in our culture we put an emphasis and expectation on relaying history, but fail to realize sometimes that isn’t possible for many different reasons.

Luckily, my Mimi loves chatting so I knew this would be something she’d like to be a part of. While she is a bit technologically challenged, we managed to get the recording perfect on the first try. I’m very happy and proud of how this video turned out. I think this will be something I’ll be able to look back at fondly. And I think for viewers out there, this will be a good insight into what nontraditional families can look like.
